CRUISE AROUND THE PALM ISLANDS

The Palm and The World are the large man-made islands, which are being built on the coast. The project currently under construction and already showing buildings will increase Dubai’s shoreline by 120km and create a large number of residential, leisure, and entertainment areas.

The Palm is built in the shape of a date palm tree and consists of a trunk; a crown with 17 fronds; and a surrounding crescent island - the back of which forms the breakwater. The World, consisting of many islands shaped like countries of our planet is also under construction and situated between the Palm Jumierah and Dubai Creek.

Either of the Palm Island developments can be circumnavigated from Dubai Marina in less than four hours which includes a short stop along the way for lunch and a swim.

FISHING

DUBAI CREEK

The creek divides Dubai into two parts - Deira Dubai and Bur Dubai. The creek is 14 Kms long. The Creek has played a major role in the economic development achieved by Dubai. Since the early days, when Dubai was a center for pearl fishing and pearl trade, Dubai’s trade development was attributed to the creek.

The Creek has constantly been an important and a safe harbor for small and medium size ships which sail to the ports of the Arabian Gulf Region, the countries of the Indian Subcontinent and East Africa, loaded with different goods which are re-exported to these various Regions.

Abras (small wooden boats) serve as taxis for those who want to cross from the Deira side to the Bur Dubai side.

An imaginative way of seeing Dubai is to take a take your boat from Dubai Marina around the Palm and the World developments and into the Dubai Creek.

There are many waterside restaurants and boat friendly marinas including the Dubai Creek Yacht Club which welcomes Dubai Marina boat owners. After lunch return via the coastline and view the ever-increasing skyline of Dubai, Jumierah that includes the famous Burg Al Arab and Jumierah International Hotels.

ABU DHABI

The city of Abu Dhabi is the capital of the emirate and also the federal capital of the UAE. HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, resides in Abu Dhabi city. The Parliament buildings, most of the federal ministries and institutions are located here, as are the foreign embassies, state broadcasting facilities, and most of the oil companies. Major infrastructural facilities include Port Zayed, Abu Dhabi International Airport, extensive cultural, sport and leisure centers along the seashore of Abu Dhabi island. Modern marinas and boating facilities welcome visitors from Dubai Marina.

MUSANDAM AND OMAN

The Musandam Peninsula is the northernmost part of Oman jutting out into the Strait of Hormuz at the entrance to the Persian Gulf. The province, or governorate of Musandam as it is officially known, is separated from the rest of Oman by several of the United Arab Emirates - Ras al Khaimah and Fujairah. Musandam more or less begins where the mountains rise from the plains of Ras al Khaimah.

At its nearest point Musandam is just 55 km from Iran across the strait.

As well as publicizing the stupendous scenery, Musandam is a diving destination. It caters for experienced and inexperienced divers alike, as well as snorkellers.

Dolphins come close to the coast many times throughout the year. These playful creatures will swim alongside your cruiser and provide a wonderful show for you and your guests.

MUSCAT

Muscat offers the visitor a unique opportunity to witness a modern commercial centre existing in harmony with its traditional culture. With its natural harbour, Muscat means “Anchorage” and lies in a natural volcanic bowl. The tour of the Grand Mosque and Bait Al Zubair Museum is a brief introduction that traces Oman’s history and development.

OMAN’S FORTS

Nizwa, capital of the interior, is the birthplace of Islam in the Sultanate of Oman. Nizwa boasts the famous Round Tower Fort, built in the 17th century, and its Souq renowned for its Friday cattle auction, intricately hand-carved “Khanjars” and ornamental silver jewellery.
